Programs

Becoming A Rock Detective
This program contains everything needed for an average class of 30 students. Includes 25 hands-on activities called, “Mysteries” that can be investigated by the students. Over 50 rock, fossil, and mineral samples. It teaches a multitude of basic earth science concepts. Complete instructions and helpful teaching techniques are provided. The program kit contains magnifying glasses, magnets, streak plate and other items. It can be customized for your grade level. Activities exceed the National Science Education Content Standards recommended by the National Research Council. Some of the content standards covered are: Science as Inquiry, Physical Science, Life Science, Earth and Space Science. The technological aspects of science and relating science to ourselves and society.  In Rock Detectives the students identify with scientists and will gain a better working knowledge about earth science!

Earth’s Crust / Rocks And Soil
(Bill Nye series)
Explores the formation of today’s continents from the theoretical super-continent called “Pangaea”, shifting tectonic plates, make up of the earth’s crust and earthquakes.  ROCKS and SOIL looks at the rock cycle, and the 3 major types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.  

Earth’s Seasons
(26 minutes)
Sample questions asked: Why does the Earth have seasons? What season is it when our part of the world is titled toward the sun? How long does it take the Earth to travel all the way around the sun? Experiment shown: An Angle on the Seasons- To demonstrate how direct sun rays are absorbed by objects.

Climates
(26 minutes)
Sample questions asked: What is climate? How does water end up in the atmosphere? What is the Continental Divide? What holds heat on Earth? Experiment shown: Make Some Rain- To demonstrate for formation of condensation on hot and cold surfaces.

A National Geographic Society Picture Show
A CD-ROM presenting two movies: Rocks and Minerals and Weathering and Erosion. These self-contained shows let you examine the three kinds of rocks and the processes that shape them.

Daacess Earth System Science
Introduces the study and usage of atmospheric satellite data collected and stored at the NASA Langley Distributed Archive Center. Includes lessons about the atmosphere, satellite data types, cloud formation and much more. 

Winds Of Change
One of NASA’s educational resources presenting a novel curriculum called Global Climate that focuses on Earth Science activities.
